My focus on brick and the brick industry has recently developed beyond my search for a suitable architectural material, and become much more about a source of ideas for sculpture. The artworks have become philosophical reflections on my practice. During 2005- 6 I was the Myhre Scholar at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts, Montana, USA. During the residency I developed a speculative piece that is sited where it is made and the venue was very important as it is the site of disused brickworks. Thus it already contains some of the narrative of my work to date, my passionate association with the historical and social issues relating to the brick industry.
