What a surprise to arrive in Fuping to find such a large hotel complex, surrounded by ponds, a garden, rockeries, terracotta sculptures. The studio where we will work is a little further away. We all be pushing it a little to fit ourselves here. The others are setting now, the process begins, and I can not believe I am in China now, breathing Chinese air. A rusty grill inspires me, a mixture of materials to incorporate. I am starting to once-fire now. My boxes look good after firing from the kiln. I look at the kiln, its rhythm, its temperature, its moods, reduction, it really looks as though it’s getting hotter just I am. I continue with the pieces I was working on, which is inspiring me to make circular pieces. I still filled with impressions from the exhibition in Xian, a desire for inscription, for writing, for characters more than for language. The hard work is this evening, or rather tonight. We all look lovely for the opening ceremony, underneath our straw hats. And there is certainly a lot to see. It’s incredible just how much we have explored in our work。 |
