富平第一印象 |
It is my first trip to China. Beijing is enormous, the Great Wall has many steps -too many for me to climb them all. The flight to Xian was quick, the ride to Fuping was quicker. And now I find myself at Fuping Pottery Art Village, a jewel on the outskirts of Fuping town. The accomodations are gracious, the food delectable and tasty, the museums impressive, and the factory marvelous. Everyone I have encountered is friendly, interested and most willing to help in any of my requests. Mr. DouFeng Xu should be commended for opening the doors to his factory and offering its entire resources in materials and technical assistance to foreign artists. In addition Mr.Xu and Mr. I-Chi Hsu should be celebrated for their daring to undertake and execute the museum complex project. What has been done so far is amazing and when the entire project is completed, I believe it will be a great benefit to China, an important resource for artists, and a milestone in the ceramic arts. 这是我第一次到中国。北京非常大。长城有许多台阶,对于我来说太多了而不能爬完。到西安的航班很快,到富平的车跑得更快。 现在我已经住在了富平陶艺村,它就像富平城外的一颗宝石。这里的房子豪华,食物美味可口,博物馆给人印象深刻,工厂也是绝妙无比。我所遇到的每个人都很友好和善。对于我的要求,大多数人愿意帮助我。徐都锋先生应该受到称赞,因为他向外国陶艺家敞开了工厂大门,并且提供全部的材料和技术帮助。另外,他和许以祺先生也应该被祝贺,因为他们敢于承担和实施博物馆复杂的工程。直到现在所作的都令人非常的惊讶,如果工程全部完工,我相信这不仅对中国有很大的益处而且对艺术家们来说,也是很重要的资源。在陶艺届它也将是一个里程碑。 |
作品自述 |
I like to show that my work is a combination of man and material where both the person making the object and the material have equal significance. I exaggerate dents and imperfections when appropriate to the construction process, as in throwing or handbuilding. Lately I have been adding granite and decomposed granite to bleed out and further activate the surface of my pieces. My work is influenced by my family, the culture I live in, the machine age, the urban environment, the media, and fad and fashion. As I age, I seem to reflect more on my youth and the older I get the further back I look. Perhaps it has to do with wanting to revisit daydreams of the past and to examine and understand what I did not know or could not see at the time. It's peculiar to revisit that time with much older eyes. 我想在我的作品中展示人与物的组合。制作物体的人与物体有着同样的重要性。当建造方法合适时,我通过扔或者手工制作来夸大作品的凹痕和瑕疵。近来,我一直在作品中加入花岗石和长石,为的是能造出流血的感觉,进一步让我的作品显得有灵气。 我的家庭,我居住地的文化,机器的年代,城市环境,媒体以及时尚的东西都对我的作品有影响。 当我成为一个老人时,我似乎想反映更多的我年轻时的岁月,再进一步地回顾一下年老的日子。也许这与我想重温一下过去的梦想,观察一下那时我所不知道的或思考一下我所不明白的事情有关。用更多的老人视角去重温那时的光阴,似乎有点怪。 |
